The Co-operative Promotion Board has funds available to make grants to develop and promote the study of co-ops.

Summary

The Co-operative Promotion Board has funds available to make grants, generally less than $5,000, to develop and promote the study of, or research into co-ops, to promote education about co-ops, to develop and promote co-ops. The Board acts under the Authority of The Cooperative Promotion Trust Act. The Board is responsible for administering funds under the act. The Board promotes the co-operative movement in Manitoba by using the funds to provide small grants.

The Board reviews key priority areas annually to ensure that the needs of the co-operative community are being addressed. The current two key areas of focus are:

1. Engaging Youth to Promote Awareness and Understanding of the Co-operative Model
As an example, projects may include but are not limited to:

  • youth employment
  • mentoring to support youth co-operative leaders
  • resources for youth in schools or the community to promote co-op awareness
  • resources for teaching professionals to promote awareness
  • support for awards

2. Learning Events for Boards, Employees, Members and Youth
As an example, projects may include but are not limited to:

  • for co-operative employees and boards: business and financial training
  • for members: general co-operative knowledge and new member resources
  • for youth: learning seminars and events

Eligibility

Applications from individuals, groups or co-operatives are encouraged to fall within one of the two key areas of focus to be eligible for a grant.
